FIVE DAY TRACKING IN SEARCH AND RESCUE
OPERATIONS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is an intensive five day course of
instruction with 80% interactive field work, for the
initial response incident commander. Course topics
include, Incident Command Post operations, as well
as how to organize, and set up multiple tracking
team operations. Other topics include, Basic
Tracking Techniques, Team Tracking, Introduction to
Search Management, Evidence Preservation and
recovery, as well as Lost Person Behavior. The last
day involves a full day tracking operation utilizing
all of the skills listed above. The students are
entirely on their own, tracking the instructors to
an unknown destination, over diverse terrain.
IED AWARENESS AND RESPONSE TO TERRORIST BOMBINGS
FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is an informative three hour course of
instruction designed for first responders. It is a
PowerPoint presentation supplemented with realistic
IED displays, as well as a small field exercise.
Students will learn about the many different types
of Improvised explosive devices in use by terrorists
today, from mail devices to roadside IEDs. Other
topics include the identification of IED components,
prevention strategies, and post blast analysis. This
is not a course on how render safe an explosive
device. Instruction is meant to inform the first
responder on how to safely identify and deal with
the threat of improvised explosive devices. This
course is applicable to Law Enforcement, EMTs,
Search and Rescue as well as Fire Fighters.
FOREIGN ANIMAL DISEASE
RESPONSE FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a four course designed to introduce the
first responder to agroterrorism. The participant
will gain an appreciation of the importance of
emergency responders to agricultural security and
the vulnerability of American agriculture to foreign
animal disease threats. This course is further
designed to provide training throughout the
emergency response community for an effective and
rapid response in the event of a threat. Topics
include, Introduction to agroterrorism, Quarantine,
Personnel Protective Equipment, Euthanasia and
Disposal, Cleaning and Disinfection operations. This
course is applicable to Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS,
and has application to all first responders as
defined (HSPD-8).
TRACKING IN SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is an intensive three-day course of
instruction with 80 % interactive fieldwork.
Designed for search and rescue teams who are tasked
with tracking lost, strayed or injured victims of
all ages. Course topics include, Basic tracking
concepts, Team tracking, use of modern technologies,
Lost spoor procedures, Conducting the follow up, as
well as interpreting the effects of age and weather
on spoor. This course is also allocable to emergency
medical technicians, and off duty law enforcement.
BASIC ITEMS REQUIRED:
Camel-Back water hydration system or canteen
Sack lunch or Trail mix
Rain gear
Appropriate field clothing
Good pair of binoculars (optional)
Good pair of hiking boots
OTHER TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Training will take place rain or shine
All lunch breaks are be in the field
Students are required to carry water, and sack lunch
every day of the course
INTRODUCTORY TWO DAY CIVILIAN TRACKING COURSE
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for small groups or
individuals who wish to learn the basics of
tracking. This is a two-day, 16-hour course starting
with the basics of individual tracking. The course
starts with four hours of power point slide
presentation introducing the world of tracking to
students, and then it’s off to the field to begin
putting your newly acquired knowledge to work. By
the end of the first day most students are able to
track individual tracks several hundred yards, and
are becoming more track aware as the day progresses
Day two picks up where we left off with the
exception that the tracking exercises are increasing
in length as the skill level and confidence of the
students increase, and the ground selected is
becoming more challenging. By the end of the course
students are tracking individuals approximately half
mile to one mile, and the speed and accuracy have
also increased.
